Session Length and Timeline

“How long are your sessions?”

Our sessions will be 50 minutes, which is known as the “therapeutic hour.” This is fairly standard for therapy and allows for administration time in-between clients.

“How long will I be in counseling?”

This varies greatly for each person. Some treatments, such as cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBTi) is a rather short-term modality, which means our time together may be as short as 8 to 12 sessions. That being said, people often benefit from longer relationships with counselors. This is something we can discuss at the beginning of services and on an ongoing basis as you progress toward meet your goals.

Fees and Insurance

“How much will it cost?”

My fee is $165 for a 50-minute session.

“Can I use my insurance?”

I am currently covered by Aetna and by a few EAPs (Employee Assistance Programs). Please inquire directly for a list of EAPs. If you are covered by another private healthcare insurance company, I am not considered an in-network provider but may be able to supply a “superbill” for you to apply for out-of-network reimbursements. If you are covered by medicaid, I am not able to provide private-pay services to you but will be happy to provide you with a list of medicaid covered referrals. Feel free to call to discuss further.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good FaithEstimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

Right fit for me?

“I’ve been to therapy before and not had a great experience.”

I hear this a lot. If this is you, I appreciate your willingness to try again. Finding “the right fit” is imperative for establishing a relationship with a counselor. Give me a call for a free 15-minute consultation to determine if you may want to give it another shot. As I’ve mentioned, counseling can be helpful for an array of issues and goals - large and small. Let’s chat about what the best resources may be for you.

Confidentiality

“Will my personal information be shared with anyone?”

Your confidentiality is of the utmost importance, and your information will not be shared with anyone outside of state and federal legal requirements. Some of the legal exceptions to confidentiality include imminent danger to yourself or others, child or elderly abuse or neglect, and a subpoena from a judge. If you are using EAP services or insurance, I may also have to share minimal information for billing purposes.
